For the first time in the history of HeliService, an AW139 helicopter was covered with foil. And not only that, but the new corporate identity was to be reflected on the helicopter…..
Together with the design agency this was prepared, but of course everything had to be submitted beforehand in accordance with the rules. When the time came, the foils were cut and stuck to the helicopter on a trial basis. Millimetre by millimetre, it was then decided how the lines should run. Of course, nothing was to be pasted over that was not allowed to be pasted over. And furthermore, that it should look as good as possible. This was a great challenge for 3 professionals from this field, who also do not glue such a large aircraft every day.
For 3 days the HeliService logo was applied under the helicopter. Lying on so-called sledges, with headphones on his ears, an employee of the company iic-Werbung made eyelet after eyelet in the CI glow red. Grateful he was then but when everything was done!
We used the following films.
Orafol 970
Avery SWF
As well as the following tools:
3M KnifelessTape (for cutting the film)
3M Edge Sealer
IP Surface Cleaner
To get an idea of exactly what we did, we logged it.
Activities Day1:
+ Clean surfaces with IP Surface Cleaner.
+ Unscrewable parts of the helicopter removed in advance by mechanic (HeliService)
removed (were glued separately)
+ Surfaces defined according to design specifications and contour masked with 3M KnifelessTape
+ underside of the helicopter covered with Avery SWF in red
Activities Day 2:
+ Helicopter nose pre-designed with 3M KnifelessTape.
+ Helicopter nose foiled with Orafol 970-178 Baltic Blue
+ Refinished underside of helicopter with hot air dryer,
Film worked around rivets and annealed to retain shape of film
+ Area under rotor blades defined with KnifelessTape design
+ Area under rotor blades taped with Orafol 970-178 Baltic Blue
Activities Day 3:
+ Rear wings taped with Avery SWF Red
+ Rear area on rotor defined with 3M KnifelessTape Design
+ Rear area on rotor taped with Orafol 970-178 Baltic blue
+ Helicopter branded on sides and bottom with logo and isobars
+ Screws cut free for easy unscrewing of attachments
+ Finally, all glued surfaces annealed to ensure the shape of the film
+ Film edges sealed with Edge Sealer
And then he was done! See the smiling face? Have you seen the logo from below? Send us pictures and we’ll give away stickers of our two Helicopter PaintSchemes.
